Goodbye 2016 – Hello 2017

As I enter my 63rd year I realise that I need to make the most of whatever the future holds. Suddenly it seems time is racing by and so 2017 is going to be action packed I hope, with lots of new challenges and experiences.

Firstly we are in the process of moving house for the first time in over 30 years. The UK house buying procedure is complicated and drawn out and nothing is definite until papers are signed, so our fingers are firmly crossed that all goes to plan. But if it does then in a few month I could be living just 200 yards from the sea and embracing a whole new way of life.

But first we have a mountain of ‘stuff’ to clear out – mostly rubbish, but a few ‘family heirlooms’, and I am adamant most of it is not coming with us to our new home. As we ventured into our attic over the holiday period we came across old bathroom sink in primrose yellow – offers anyone? A selection of McDonalds kids giveaways, (my daughters thought they may be valuable one day), random curtains and cushions kept ‘just in case’, mountains of spare bed linen, odd bits of furniture and of course bags and bags of unwanted clothes that haven’t quite made it to the charity shop.

If and when we get to our new house, it must be said that much as we love it, there are months of refurbishment and alterations ahead. It is to be a project for my husband Clive who loves a challenge and needs to be kept busy!

Another big change is my dogs – my Guide Dog puppy Sable is due to leave me on 25 January to go onto ‘big school’ and advanced training. Sable is too clever for her own good so once this intelligence is harnessed in the right direction; I hope she makes someone a good guide dog. Our family pet Bella is turning 13 and feeling her age, poor old thing. She is on a cocktail of drugs which keep her going and seems to enjoy her slower pace of life but I fear her days are numbered.

But on the bright side, there is the travelling! Some great trips planned for 2017 starting with California in February, Mallorca for a spot of walking in early summer, the Spanish Pyrenees in late summer and a safari to Kenya in October – phew!

So Happy New Year to all my followers and I hope you continue to enjoy my blogs from home and away.
