Five Star Luxury Comes to Eastbourne

I love hotels, big or small, simple or luxury, boutique style, spa resorts and everything in-between, so as I walk along Eastbourne’s wonderful seafront I have been watching the refurbishment of the Chatsworth Hotel. This grand Victorian property apparently started life as three adjoined townhouses, and how splendid they must have been in their heyday. In the early 1900’s the building was converted into a hotel and operated successfully for many years.

Recently I spotted a notice in the window of the hotel inviting anyone who is interested to call in to see the amazing works that are taking place. I didn’t need asking twice and was greeted by Mr Sapolyo, the man behind the finances of the project. He was charming and enthusiastic and keen to show me the changes that were being made to convert this somewhat tired old lady of a building into a five-star hotel fit to wow and woo guests from far and wide.

On the ground floor the enormous curved windows that face the sea let the sunshine flood in, and together with high ceilings, give the reception rooms amazing light. As you enter from the front of the building the central reception area is dominated by a beautiful art deco ‘cage’ lift that is being lovingly restored and is bound to be a focus for the building. On the right side of the hotel an elegant dining room is being constructed and I am told the cuisine will be of the highest standard. On the left is a lounge area, bright and welcoming and with wonderful sea views. A perfect place to enjoy morning coffee and browse newspapers or a book.

A luxury suite, Chatsworth Hotel

This multi-million pound project will eventually have 30 bedrooms. Sadly, I could go no further at this point, but will call in again, as I am promised a peek at one of the designer suites. For now, I just have an artist’s image of a bedroom and it is looking as luxurious as I would expect from a five-star establishment.

Wow – what a bathroom! Chatsworth Hotel

That’s not all, as well as three bars, a sun terrace and a function room, the icing on the cake is a full spa to be constructed on the lower ground floor and I understand, along with all the hotel facilities, it will be open to non-residents!
